What employers care about during job interviews

What employers care about during job interviews While taking a career test can point jobseekers toward the type of profession that will suit them the best, they will not get far if they are not familiar with interview etiquette and other important aspects of the job search. For those who wish to launch their career on the right foot, it may help to listen to professionals who play a role in their company’s hiring decisions.

Boston University’s BU Today recently spoke to Benjamin Bailey, employment manager for the Omni Parker House hotel, who shed some light on what he thinks jobseekers need to do.

For instance, when it comes to interviewing for a position, Bailey believes job candidates need to maintain eye contact, watch their language and always send a thank-you note following the meeting. He added that while this does not seem important, it shows company officials that the individual they met with is serious about coming to work for them.

In Bailey’s opinion, something that can kill potential employees’ chances of being hired is when they arrive late, as it shows they do not care enough about the position.

If individuals are ever running late for an interview, Quintessential Careers recommends calling the employer if they know they will be in soon. In the event that they may be over 10 minutes late, it is best to reschedule the interview.
