Ways to ensure a productive phone call with a potential employer

Ways to ensure a productive phone call with a potential employer Once job seekers complete a career test, their next priority may be preparing for an in-person interview. While this is never a bad idea, these individuals also need to make sure they are ready to participate in interviews over the phone, or simply inquire about possible employment opportunities. How they come across over the phone may just influence their chances of finding work.

In a recent Delmarva Now article, Bonnie Mackenzie, co-owner of the placement firm Shore Staffing, suggested job seekers sound confident, organized and prepared when speaking to someone from a company they would like to work for. She advised individuals to always introduce themselves first, and ask if it is a good time to talk. If it is, they should never cut off whoever they are talking to, and avoid speaking in more than three to four sentences without stopping.

When it comes to phone interviews, Quintessential Careers recommends talking with a pen in hand so they can take notes. In addition, it helps to have a resume and any questions they have in front of them. Individuals also need to make sure they have enough battery left on their phone before they agree to talk. The last thing job seekers want is to be cut off halfway through a great talk just because they did not take the proper precautions.
