Taking a career test may prevent people from job hopping
TUESDAY, JANUARY 17, 2012 16:43 PM

Taking a career test may prevent people from job hopping In her Work Coach column in The Columbus Dispatch, Marie G. McIntyre, a workplace coach and author, said that hiring managers may question a candidate’s stability if they frequently hop between jobs. In some cases, this pattern may hint at deeper problems.

Dan Schawbel, the managing partner of the personal branding agency, Millennial Branding, also sees the downside of job hopping. In a CNN article, he wrote that today’s employees are so focused on finding their dream position that they do not realize how changing employers so frequently can hurt their careers.

Schawbel highlighted data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics that shows the average American will hold about nine jobs between the ages of 18 and 32. However, when workers quickly vacate a position in favor of another, they do not give the first job a chance. Furthermore, this keeps them from gaining the skills and experience that can help them in their careers.

Rather than trying out different jobs and gaining a reputation for being unreliable, individuals should consider taking a career test so they know what type of a position will best suit their skills and personality.
