When it comes to finding jobs, women may be at a distinct disadvantage, Fox Business reported. This is due to the fact that men are more likely than women to use their professional connections during the job search, according to a recent survey that was conducted by TweetMyJOBS and executive coach Michael "Dr. Woody" Woodward.

Based on survey results from more than 2,000 jobseekers, men were found to be more proactive than women when it comes to reaching out to colleagues and contacts through social media, the news source stated. Males were also more likely to make new connections via these interactive websites.

While this puts female jobseekers at a disadvantage, there are ways for them to become more like their male counterparts. For instance, they can connect with friends over social media platforms like Facebook and LinkedIn and receive job referrals, the news outlet suggested.

LinkedIn alone currently has more than 150 million users around the world, according to the social media platform’s website.

The news source also suggested that women be assertive and honest when approaching their contacts to learn about job prospects.

However, before women or men reach out to their contacts, they may want to complete a career test to make sure they know what type of job is best for them.
