Even though men and women are free to apply for the same jobs, the two genders have different views regarding the economy and what impact it has on their careers and professional goals, Life Inc. reported.

Based on data from a recent Randstad survey, 51 percent of men believe the economy has negatively affected their career plans, while only 41 percent of women agree with this statement, according to the news source.

At the same time, more female workers than male professionals believe that if they were to lose their jobs, it would take them longer to find new positions. Women feel they would be job hunting for roughly 5.4 months, whereas men think it would take 4.7 months.

Additional research on men and women’s job outlook from the Pew Research Center found that the genders view the importance of their career differently as well. According to the Center’s website, 66 percent of women between the ages of 18 and 34 consider their career to be high on their list of life priorities, while only 59 percent of men agree with this statement.

No matter what gender jobseekers belong to, taking a career test to identify the best profession for them may be one way to reduce some of the concerns they have over the economy and its impact on their professions.
