During interviews, recruiters may play mind games

During interviews, recruiters may play mind games When job candidates sit down to interview for a position, they may be prepared to hear common questions about their strengths and weaknesses. However, something they may not be ready for, or even know how to handle, is mind games.

Business Insider recently highlighted mind games recruiters are known to play. For instance, the news source reported that interviewers may judge candidates based on the pronouns they use in conversation. Those who answer in the first person tend to be high performers, according to research conducted by training provider Leadership IQ. Meanwhile, low performers often respond in the second or third person.

Another trick that some recruiters may employ is to stop talking and see how a job candidate fills the silence, the news outlet stated. While uncomfortable, these moments can often elicit information on prospective employees that interviewers seek.

In the event that recruiters play mind games, jobseekers will want to use a few tricks of their own. For instance, CBS MoneyWatch recommended that these individuals build a rapport with their interviewer and spell out their worth to a prospective employer with a clear pitch.

Taking a career test may help jobseekers create a strong pitch, as the results of this assessment can help them identify positions that are the right fit for them.
