College seniors advised to start their job search early

College seniors advised to start their job search early As the end of the academic year is fast approaching, the job search is likely to be on the minds of many college seniors.

Despite a high national unemployment rate, graduates may find themselves facing better job prospects than they expected. Reuters recently reported that career experts at several U.S. colleges and universities have seen the number of companies attending campus job fairs increase by between 15 and 30 percent.

As a result, soon-to-be college graduates will want to take a careful approach to their job search so that their resume does not get lost in the shuffle.

Chris Vecchiarelli, vice president of Elite Personnel, told The Record that students should start applying for jobs early, as opposed to after graduation. After all, May is when many employers are overloaded with resumes.

Yesterday’s job hunting strategies no longer apply in a world where most people have an account on a social media website. Beyond applying for positions online, the news source also recommended they network via websites like LinkedIn, or even send out unsolicited resumes and cover letters.

If college graduates are taking these steps, but are still unsure about the type of job that is best for them, they can always complete a career test.
