In lieu of subjecting someone to a lie detector test, there are several ways to tell if an individual is being dishonest. For instance, Forbes suggests people observe body language, such as fidgeting and sweating.

New research from the University of Cambridge, the Medical Research Council Cognition and Brain Sciences Unit, and the University of Exeter provides evidence that individuals who sweat over the thought of engaging in unethical behavior may avoid taking this risky course of action altogether, Reuters reported.

In a recent study, researchers analyzed the ways in which 51 participants divided 10 British pounds between two people. As the subjects devised a plan for sharing the money, researchers paid close attention to these individuals’ heart rate, as well as how much they sweated through their fingertips. What they found was when faced with a financial offer that seemed unfair, the study subjects’ gut feelings tended to override whatever rational thoughts they had.

If individuals feel like they sweat more often than they should, it may be time to take a personality test and see if their perspiration has anything to do with how ethical they are.
