In addition to lowering the risk of potential ailments, paying attention to cardiac rhythms may provide insight into one’s personality, LiveScience reported. In a recent Freie Universität Berlin study, researchers found that heartbeat signatures can be linked to certain personality traits.

To arrive at this conclusion, researchers worked with 425 students between the ages of 18 and 33. They found that participants who had a certain heartbeat signature also scored higher on a personality test used to identify neuroticism, according to the news source.

Based on their findings, researchers believe that the analysis of heartbeat signatures may be a more accurate and objective way of narrowing down one’s personality traits in the future, the news outlet stated. Furthermore, they feel this approach can help identify individuals who are at risk for depression or other emotional disorders.
