How people behave while playing social video games may provide insight into their real-life habits, based on the results of a recent PopCap Games survey. The video game developer found that nearly half of individuals who cheat in virtual environments are also likely to cheat in their daily lives.

PopCap Games surveyed more than 10 million people from the U.S. and U.K. who said they cheat in social video games. Of these individuals, 48 percent admit to cheating in real life as well.

For instance, 51 percent of respondents said they steal towels, cups and other items from hotels, 47 percent take packets of sugar and butter from restaurants and 43 percent take home magazines from waiting rooms. Meanwhile, 51 percent of respondents are willing to park in handicap parking spaces even if they are not eligible to.

On a more severe note, 58 percent of gamers in the U.K. and 33 percent in the U.S. are more likely to cheat on their taxes, while 49 percent of all respondents have cheated during a committed relationship.
