Parents can learn from gifted child's story

Recently, multiple media outlets reported that 11-year-old Luis Roberto Ramírez Álvarez of Mexico would soon be attending classes at Harvard University. Among these news outlets was The Huffington Post, which updated its story when it found out Harvard had no record of the gifted child.

While Luis Roberto is indeed gifted, with an IQ somewhere in the range of 152-160, he is not enrolled at Harvard, the Latin Times reported. In addition to revealing he lied about his academic future, Luis Roberto opened up about not having any friends.

Luis Roberto's story is one the parents of gifted children can learn from. Soon after learning about his high IQ and talents, the child skipped the fifth and sixth grades. As he finished elementary school in four months, Luis Roberto did not have time to make friends his own age.

"My mom has always been with me, she's been very supportive," Luis Roberto told the news source. "She's helped me overcome all the bullying. She stood by my side in good times and bad times."

Luis Roberto's story serves as an example of why it is important for parents to have their children take an IQ test for kids. If children's talents are ignored, they could miss out on opportunities to meet like-minded peers, or become the victims of bullying.
