Oftentimes, the results of a kids IQ test may reveal that a child has certain cognitive abilities that separates him or her from others. However, just because someone is considered to be a gifted child does not mean he or she shares the same traits as other gifted children.

"Just because [students] are gifted, they are in no way the same," Carol Strip Whitney, an enrichment consultant and teacher, told The Newark Advocate.

Whitney fills these roles at Ohio’s Oxford Enrichment Center, and also serves as a gifted student consultant at Midwest Educational Therapists and Associates, according to the news source. She added that stereotypes exist about gifted children, but not all of these youths are as organized and well-adjusted as many believe.

To help dispel some of the misconceptions teachers and parents may have about gifted children, Whitney and her husband Richard hosted a discussion titled The Gifted Brain: New Discoveries in How Smart Kids Learn, the news outlet reported.

According to the National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC), there is a myth that these youths do not require learning assistance. This is far from the truth, as the NAGC states that well-trained teachers play a crucial role in helping these children develop their abilities.
