Kid geniuses in the movies

Whether your child has already been identified as gifted via a kids IQ test or you simply want to provide him or her with some inspiration, movies are a great place to look. Cinema is riddled with child prodigies, and whether the film is serious or comedic, your little genius will enjoy seeing kids on film doing extraordinary things.

'Big Hero 6,' rated PG
Released in the fall of 2014, "Big Hero 6" tells the story of a boy named Hiro Hamada who goes to the San Fransokyo Institute of Technology (a fictional M.I.T.-type school) at age 14 and proceeds to build a giant inflatable robot. The film's not only filled with unique scientific inventions, but also many young "science geeks" and tech geniuses who explore the effects and ramifications of technology.

'Finding Forrester,' rated PG-13
In "Finding Forrester" a boy from the Bronx who scores exceptionally high on a standardized test is admitted to a prestigious prep school and revealed to be both an athletic and literary genius. He soon befriends a reclusive author who helps him improve his craft and embrace his innate gifts.

'Billy Elliot,' PG-13
Not all child prodigies find their calling in academics. Billy Elliot, a boy from northern England, abandons his boxing lessons to take up ballet when he discovers he has an affinity for dance. Despite problems at home and school, Billy diligently pursues his dream and lands an audition at the prestigious Royal Ballet. Is he admitted? You'll have to watch the movie to find out.

'Little Man Tate,' rated PG
The child of a single mother, Fred Tate is a boy genius who is not only a mathematical wonder, but also a highly gifted artist and pianist. Fred attends a school for exceptional students, and the film explores his attempts to find his place in the world as a child with an extremely high IQ.
