The National Association for Gifted Children states that individuals who possess an exceptional ability to reason and learn may be gifted. For this reason, it is not uncommon for youths to take an interest in things others their age do not spend their time thinking about, such as politics and the upcoming presidential election.

In order to vote, Americans must be at least 18 years old. As a result, the gifted and talented students from Virginia's Waynesboro Public Schools will not be casting a ballot on November 6. However, this did not prevent them from participating in a mock election at the Waynesboro Circuit Courtroom, NBC 29 News reported.

To prepare the next generation of informed voters, the Waynesboro registrar worked with the Virginia State Board of Elections to allow students to exercise their right to vote on an actual machine. For the past few weeks, pupils have been learning about politics, the government, President Barack Obama and Republican nominee Mitt Romney.

While the recent mock election's results will not have any impact on the actual election, this event serves as an example of the opportunities that await gifted children who are identified early on. If parents feel their children require an advanced level of instruction, they may want to have them complete an IQ test for kids.
