The National Association for Gifted Children states that these youths may show signs of their abilities and talents in the classroom, where they learn at a faster rate than other kids their age.As a result, gifted students often benefit from special programs that are designed to meet their advanced educational needs. For example, 30 third-graders from Baker, Roberts and South Valley elementary schools in New Jersey recently took part in an activity that transformed them into amateur sleuths, Moorestown's Patch website reported. These gifted and talented students each read the Sherlock Holmes-inspired story, The 100-Year-Old Secret, the news source stated. After finishing this book, which follows the exploits of two mystery-solving children, the pupils took part in a series of activities that were designed to help them develop such skills as deductive reasoning, critical observation and problem-solving.Kate Reilly, assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction at the Moorestown Public School District, told the news outlet that in addition to providing these students with a problem-solving activity, this opportunity gave these children a chance to meet one another.Parents who want to ensure that their children are placed in the right settings from an early age may want to have them take a kids IQ test to see if they are considered gifted students.
