One might assume that people with high IQs can be found working in scientific fields, as well as other intellectually challenging professions. However, these individuals can also be found in the world of sports, as evidenced by Ryan Fitzpatrick, quarterback for the Buffalo Bills, The Washington Post reported.
Fitzpatrick, who studied economics at Harvard University, is cited as one of the reasons why the typically troubled Bills are performing so well this season, the news source stated. However, he is also recognized for his score on the test the National Football League (NFL) uses to gauge their players' intelligence. Based on the results of this assessment, the player has an IQ of about 150.
According to the news outlet, Fitzpatrick's results were the second-highest ever recorded by the NFL. In 1975, Pat McInally of the Cincinnati Bengals managed to receive a perfect score on the League's assessment.
"If you get a solid score, show better than average intelligence, that’s going to help you in the long run for myriad reasons, not just retaining the playbook," Lester Archambeau, an NFL player agent, told the news source.
Fitzpatrick is not alone in the NFL. Benjamin Watson, who plays for the Cleveland Browns, is rumored to have an IQ around 172, according to Bleacher Report.
