5 intelligent female role models for girls

Highly intelligent children can sometimes feel a little isolated from their peers, often preferring solitude or the company of older children or adults. In that way, having a high IQ score can sometimes seem frustrating. But smart, successful and downright awesome role models can make a huge difference in the lives of gifted children - it makes being smart seem that much cooler. If your daughter is highly intelligent, share these five brilliant female role models with her:

1. Emma Watson
Not only is Emma Watson extremely intelligent, but she also had the opportunity to play one of the brightest and most powerful fictional female role models of all time: Hermione Granger from the "Harry Potter" series. Watson recently graduated from Brown University and was appointed a United Nations Goodwill Ambassador in 2014. Her mission at the U.N.? To empower women and promote gender equality. 

2. Tavi Gevinson
Tavi Gevinson is not as well-known as Emma Watson, but she's a pretty incredible role model. At age 12, Gevinson created a blog called Style Rookie. She's now the CEO and founder of online editorial Rookie Magazine - oh, and she's still a teenager. Gevinson has received accolades from the likes of Forbes and Time magazine for her successful and inspiring ventures.

3. Malala Yousafzai
Malala Yousafzai gained worldwide acclaim when she survived a gunshot to the head for demanding that girls receive an education in Pakistan. The young activist was targeted by the Taliban for standing up for women's rights. Despite the traumatic experience, Yousafzai remains an amazing advocate for equal rights and is the youngest person ever to win a Nobel Peace Prize. 

4. Audrey Gelman
Audrey Gelman is many things, including an actress in the TV show "Girls," the vice president of a political public relations company called SKDKnickerbocker, and a contributing editor for Marie Claire magazine. She's also worked in public relations positions for some prominent campaigns, including as a press aide for Hillary Clinton and deputy communications director for New York politician Scott Stringer. Gelman's success in so many things proves what an amazing role model she is.

5. Reese Witherspoon
With one Academy Award under her belt and another nomination on top of that, Reese Witherspoon is certainly a terrific actress. However, it's her commitment to philanthropy that makes her a great role model. Witherspoon is involved in a number of charities for children and women. She's even the honorary chair of the Avon Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to breast cancer research and raising awareness of domestic violence.
