What shoes say about personality
THURSDAY, JUNE 14, 2012 16:24 PM

Growing up, people are taught never to judge a book by its cover alone. When it comes to shoes, however, it can be rather easy to get a sense of somebody’s personality based on their choice of footwear, according to new research from the University of Kansas.

Whether people are wearing ragged Converse sneakers or an expensive pair of Jimmy Choos, the decision they made to put on these shoes and go out in public provides a window into their age, income and personality, MSNBC reported.

"Age, gender and income are usually pretty 'visible' characteristics [from shoes], so it's not surprising that observers picked up on them," said study researcher Angela Bahns, as quoted by the news source. "After all, stylishness or a designer label may hint at a shoe owner's wealth, sex or age."

Based on the results of the study, extroverts were more likely to put on a pair of flashy shoes, while conscientious individuals tended to keep their footwear cleaner than most, according to The Huffington Post. In addition, high-priced shoes were, of course, associated with wealthier participants.

As a result of this study, individuals may want to take a personality test before they tell others that their clothing choices do not define them. They may be surprised how wrong they are.
