According to the Military Community Examiner, the unemployment rate for veterans is hovering around 11 percent, which is about two percentage points higher than that of the general population. Many of these veterans entered the military right out of high school and may find it daunting to search for their first real job after they have finished serving. The news outlet states that today, the job application process involves more than employers scanning resumes and choosing the most qualified applicants. Instead, veterans should be prepared for a much lengthier process. For example, job applicants may need to pass a criminal background check and an assessment of their financial history. Additionally, more companies are now asking potential employees to take a personality test before offering them a job.Dr. Todd Harris, the director of research at PI Worldwide, told Inc. Magazine that personality tests can help employers find the perfect employee on multiple levels."By that, we mean you're not just hiring someone for a job; the person needs to fit in other ways," he said. "There's the job, there's the fit between the individual and supervisor, there's the company culture and finally, there's the surrounding community."
