A new study from the University of Granada is indicating that children who attend private schools are more likely to use efficient strategies to emotionally cope with their own problems compared to those who attend public institutions. The research, which was published in the journal, Psicotema, found that private school students displayed better practices of problem-oriented coping. Some of these practices included concentrating deeply, seeking physical activity and focusing on the positive aspects of the situation.Researchers examined a sample of 4,500 students between the ages of 13 and 18. Approximately 47.3 percent were male and 52.7 percent were female, with 32.4 percent attending private institutions.Evidence suggested that the type of school a student is attending may have an affect on how they cope with certain problems, as they could be exposed to a different culture or education structure than their peers. The study also suggests that further research should be completed to determine the difference in students from public and private systems and how they cope with specific risky situations, drug abuse and other issues.
