Jennifer Golbeck and fellow researchers at the University of Maryland recently performed a study that suggests that Facebook can serve as a type of personality test for employers to learn more about job candidates, ABC News reports.Researchers analyzed the information about favorite activities, TV shows, movies, music, quotes, books and political preferences on 300 public Facebook profiles. They also looked at the "about me" and "blurb" sections of these websites.Using this information, researchers then asked the individuals to take a personality test that measures "the big five." These exams measure a person's experience, conscientiousness, extroversion, agreeableness and neuroticism, according to the news outlet.Golbeck said that from the survey results her team learned that it is possible to predict a person's personality score with a 10 percent error margin using Facebook. However, Facebook is still not as accurate as a standard personality test, which may be a helpful tool for individuals who are searching for the right employees for their companies. According to an article in the Washington Post, about 2,500 American firms offer some type of personality test that is geared towards finding job candidates.
