The City Council members of Hopkins, Minnesota recently said that it will take them longer than previously expected to pick a new city manager due to the professional strengths of the six finalists, Hopkins' Patch website reports. In order to pick the perfect new staff member, the council hosted several group interviews with the applicants, as well as city leaders and department heads. Then, council members voted on the individual they would pick as the new city manager. An additional part of the process mandated that applicants take a personality test, the news source reports. Former City Manager Rick Gerschow was an extrovert, which made many council members reject those individuals who were shown to be introverts on their assessments. These professionals said that too much change in the personality of the city manager could affect city officials, who need to work with this individual every day.Still, many other employers outside of local governments use personality tests to find ideal job candidates. For example, Bob Kreisberg, chief executive officer of Opus Productivity Solutions, told Inc. Magazine that his company uses the assessments to hire salespeople.
