A new training programs aimed at improving teacher and student performance through the use of data will be unveiled by the University of California at Riverside next week.Officials will release the Teacher Education Integrated Information System (TEISS) at the American Educational Research Association meeting later this month. The program is a platform for campuses to integrate and systematize common record keeping needs of teacher education curricula with data collection mandated by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing."Teaching and teacher education are under unprecedented scrutiny in the court of public opinion," said Peter Jones, assessment and evaluation coordinator at the school . "We need to leverage our resources to tell the collective story of our work."This system comes after President Barack Obama's push for more accountability for teachers and school districts. There are assessment and evaluation modules that provide evidence that the program standards and the Teaching Performance Expectations - which are California professional standards - are met.Furthermore, the system includes modules for admissions information, which may help to document that the program is meeting established standards and guidelines. These include, students and intern teaching placement records that contain detailed information on public schools, mentor teachers and evidence that applicants are placed in appropriate placements with qualified supervision.
