As technology is increasingly integrating itself into the world, the older generation of workers has a harder time establishing exactly how to deal with design. However, because older educators typically do not understand all of the fundamentals that go into technology design, there could be a gap with students. As a result, a new study from the University of Missouri suggests that there needs to be a change in the way that technology is taught to students, as a way to use the younger generation to its full potential."In a traditional educational model, learning only occurs in the classroom," MU researcher Newton D'Souza said. "Now, with technology like laptops and mobile phones, learning can occur anywhere from classrooms to hallways to coffee shops. For older generations, technology is a separate fixture."The researchers found that by using the 3D program 2nd Life, students were able to learn the design basics that they may not be able to from the common teacher. The scientists suggest that by implementing 3D programs and other virtual reality projects, students may be able to get a handle on design through self-teaching.
