When children are at a young age, they are often impulsive in their desires. However, a new study is suggesting that how much self-control a child has at the age of 5 has the potential to predict their health, wealth and criminal record later on in life.A study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences followed 500 sibling pairs. These children were categorized as those who had low self-control and children with a high sense of will power. The researchers found that children who lacked the ability to control themselves had poorer life outcomes, no matter what their family background was.USA Today reports that the study asserted that a lack of self-control had a higher prediction of future poverty, more so than one's social class or their IQ score.Additionally, the researchers found that overall, girls had more self-control than their male counterparts and that female subjects that came from a socioeconomically advantaged household had an even higher instance of willpower.
