With the holiday shopping season well underway, some parents are on the hunt for toys that can make their children smarter.KCPQ reported that experts say a child’s IQ is largely determined at 4 years of age. As a result, playing with the right toys may help with youths’ cognitive development."We did a study here in Seattle with kids 18 to 24 months of age and found that the kids that played with blocks actually had better language development than those who did not play with blocks," Dimitri Christakis of the University of Washington, told the news source.Christakis added that while several of the electronic toys on the market say they build intelligence, there is no evidence to back up these claims. Oftentimes, the simpler the toy, the better it will be for children.Natalie Speakman of LearningRX, recently spoke to KXRM about the ways in which mothers can build "The Smart Mom’s Toy Box." Speakman suggested looking for toys that focus on underlying mental skills and strengthen memory, processing speed, attention, logic and reasoning. If parents are curious to see how the toys they have purchased for their children have influenced their cognitive abilities, they may want to have them take a kids IQ test.
