The National Association for Gifted Children states that an estimated 3 million gifted children can be found in classrooms across the country. For parents and teachers, it helps to know who these youths are so they can provide them with learning opportunities they will find appealing. For instance, in Texas, teams of gifted fourth- through eighth-graders recently took part in this year's Region 7 Education Service Center Gifted and Talented Fall Robotics Competition, Friday Football Fanatics, The Lufkin Daily News reported. During the sports-themed event, students were required to program robots to kick a plush football between makeshift goal posts. This was no easy task, as the robots had to move along a curved black line and not knock over dowel rods that were standing in for cheerleaders, the news source stated. Donna Ashby, Region 7 gifted and talented education specialist, said the challenge provided children with a chance to think critically and creatively. If parents want their children to take part in educational opportunities that can help them develop their abilities, they should consider having them complete a kids IQ test to see if they are considered gifted.
