A 13-year-old will start her first semester of college at the University of Connecticut this fall, the New York Daily News reports. Autum Ashante said she plans to study medicine.Ashante's father told the news outlet that she has always been exceptionally intelligent. His daughter could walk at about 10 months old and was reading by the time she turned 2 years old. Then, at age 3, she was writing poetry.The student's father encouraged her to take a kids IQ test when she was 8 years old. Ashante received a score of 149. According to Mensa, a high IQ society, while there are many different IQ assessments available, the average IQ test score is about 100.Ashante's father said that he constantly encouraged his daughter to develop her academic skills. She was home-schooled by retired teachers in the community and was taught to see the world as her classroom, according to the news source. The teen learned to speak Arabic, Swahili and Spanish and is now working on a photography and poetry book.
