In the second grade, twins Ben and Jake Schultheis were told to take IQ tests because they struggled in school, Cincinnati.com reports. After receiving scores that landed them in the 10th percentile, the boys were told that they would not be successful academically. However, their poor scores only made them work harder. Recently, they graduated from Purcell Marian High School. Ben was the valedictorian and Jake was the salutatorian.Don Loos, the students' guidance counselor, told the media outlet that he is amazed at how much the boys have grown and the level of dedication and devotion they have shown to their academics.Given his experience, Ben advises others to not be extremely disappointed with poor standardized test scores, such as those from an IQ test. Lower results do not mean that students will never be successful, he told the news outlet. In some cases, they can even push children to work harder.Livestrong reports that there are many other benefits in having children take IQ tests. For example, those who earn low scores can be put in classes that will give them extra attention.
