Several year's worth of studies have shown how exposure to music can help with children's brain development, according to The Washington Times. As a result, many parents want their kids to listen to music starting at a young age, and in some cases, before they are even born. The news source highlighted the results of several studies, including research that was conducted by Frances H. Rauscher and his colleagues in 1993, which gave rise to the Mozart Effect. The Journal of the Royal Society of Medicine stated that these researchers found that listening to the composer's music for 10 minutes showed improvements in participants' spatial reasoning skills after taking IQ tests. Similar results were achieved in a University of North Texas study that used music from Handel.Parents who wish to expose their children to the benefits of music can do so inexpensively, according to the news source. For instance, they can simply leave on the radio or play any genre of music on their iPod or CD player.Parents who have raised their children around music and want to see if it has had any impact on their mental development can have them take a kids IQ test.
