When parents are trying to determine which care facility they should place their child in, they may be inadvertently pushing their children's communication skills.A new study by the Norwegian Institute of Public Health found that children who were in a formal day care were early talkers compared to those who were taken care of by a parent, child care professional or placed in a nursery. The study also found that there were fewer late-talkers in children who were in day care centers full-time as opposed to those who attended part-time.These findings could be good news for parents who have decided to put their children in a form of full-time day care, as they may be at a lower risk for language delays.Additionally, a child's language development could ultimately affect their performance in school. The study reports that although a delay could disappear as the child moves on to preschool, the student will often continue with writing and reading difficulties during their early academic years.
