Several scientists have tried to determine what can cause someone to be a genius, whether it be outside influences, genetic makeup or simple luck of the draw. However, a new study is suggesting that genius could be a result of hormonal influences.Researchers from the University of Alberta believe that genius could be spawned from prenatal exposure to higher levels of testosterone. Lead researcher Marty Mrakiz explains that this phenomenon is similar to cognitive deficiencies that are developed while in the womb."There seems to be some evidence that excessive prenatal exposure to testosterone facilitates increased connections in the brain, especially in the right prefrontal cortex," said Mrazik. "That's why we see some intellectually gifted people with distinct personality characteristics that you don't see in the normal population."An individual who is considered gifted has an IQ score of 130 or higher. Mrazick hypothesized that gifted children were a result of the "hormonal glitch," but also pointed out that more research would need to be done in order to determine the validity of this theory.
