In today's world, students need to use the computer in order to complete their assignments. However, as most households have at least one computer, new research is suggesting that students may not develop as quickly in their reading because of their leisurely habits. According to a study out of the University of Gothenburg, researchers found that since computers have entered the household, fewer children are reading for fun, which is resulting in them not developing enough in their reading. The researchers believe that this could relate to the fact that there are less high-performing students in today's education system because fewer children have been able to fully develop their reading skills like past generations have. "We have shown that the poorer results are principally caused by a fall in the skills of those from the center of the ability range and upwards," said researcher Monica Rosén. "It is not that case that there are more or less-gifted readers or that the skills of these readers have become poorer. What has happened is that there are fewer high-performing children."
