Alex Beach, a 12-year-old from Georgia, recently began taking his first postsecondary class at North Georgia College and State University, The Dahlonega Nugget reports. Now, the boy is juggling his love of Pokemon cards and playing Wii with his assignments as a college freshman. When he was 2 years old, Beach's parents asked him to take a kids IQ test, after which professionals told them that he was exceptionally intelligent, despite the fact that he had previously been diagnosed with autism.Although Beach occasionally suffered from severe mood swings and trouble communicating due to his autism, his intelligence continued to grow and he began reading and doing multiplication at a very early age.Currently, his mother told the news source that he will study at the local school for a few years before transferring to Georgia Institute of Technology for material science and engineering.According to Duke University's Talent Identification Program, IQ tests are the standard way of testing for gifted children. Although intelligence testing is about 100 years old, it is still a suitable option for determining whether a child should be put in a special program for talented and gifted youths.
