While some students enjoy the time they spend in class, others count down the minutes till the end of the school day. However, pupils may be a little less eager to get out of class if the amount of time they spend in school really did make them smarter. This might not be the case with every student, but researchers from Statistics Norway and the University of Oslo found it to be true of Norwegian men at the center of a recent study, BBC news reported. Between 1955 and 1972, compulsory schooling in Norway was increased from seven to nine years, according to the news source. This meant that students left school at the age of 16, rather than 14. Researchers analyzed the results of IQ tests that were administered to men 19 years of age by the military. Based on this data, the researchers believe that the extended schooling was related to a 3.7-point increase in IQ among males, according to the news outlet. Individuals who are curious to learn how the time they have spent in school has affected their cognitive abilities may want to take an IQ test. Using the results of this assessment, people can see if they fall between the average IQ range of 90 and 110, or score above 130 and should be considered gifted, according to MedlinePlus.
