Growing up is hard enough as is, but it can be even more challenging for people who also happen to have a high IQ. In some cases, those who seek more intellectual stimulation may have trouble relating to individuals their own age throughout life. This is why organizations like Mensa International can be so beneficial to people’s personal development.
According to Mensa’s website, members of the high IQ society have an opportunity to meet like-minded peers through special interest groups as well as regional, national and international conventions. One of these events, American Mensa’s 2012 Annual Gathering, is set to take place from July 4-8 in Reno, Nevada, at The Silver Legacy Casino and Hotel.
The theme of this year’s Gathering will be "The End of Time" in honor of the Mayan’s prediction that the world will come to an end on December 21, 2012. Despite the title, this event will be anything but bleak.
"We hope our members will learn a few interesting things, think a few new thoughts, have fun with friends and family, and enjoy all that Reno-Tahoe has to offer," said Ken Wright, chairman for the 2012 Annual Gathering.
If individuals have always felt they were different from their peers, they may want to take an IQ test to see if they should be considered gifted.
