People who are of above average intelligence, or display a mastery of certain talents, are often referred to as geniuses, whether they like it or not. However, with these abilities come many perks, such as the opportunity to gain funding that can help them further develop their gifts.
For example, The MacArthur Foundation recently announced its 2011 MacArthur Fellows - 22 individuals who work in various industries and have the potential to make contributions to society that are both creative and original.
Among those who were selected were an architect, a clinical psychologist, a technologist, a radio producer and a composer. These, and the 17 other chosen individuals, will each receive $500,000 in financial support over the next five years. With these grants come no stipulations, as the funding's purpose is to provide recipients with the freedom to reflect and explore.
"The MacArthur Fellows exemplify how individual creativity and talent can spark new insights and ideas in every imaginable field of human endeavor," said Robert Gallucci, president of the Foundation.
Individuals who are curious to see the ways in which they excel can take an IQ test. Using the results of this assessment, they may be able to see which talents come more naturally to them and what areas they can stand to improve in.
