When it came time to pick a college major, Virginia's Janet Wilmmer recognized her love for art, but simply did not think she was good enough to pursue it as a future job, The Franklin News-Post reports. However, after taking a career test and speaking with a counselor, Wilmmer decided that she could not deny her passion for the subject.Wilmmer went on to earn a bachelor's degree in studio art, followed by a master's degree in liberal studies. After receiving these credentials, Wilmmer went on to become an art teacher for secondary and postsecondary schools in the area. Today, she is retired and her work is featured at the Center along the Crooked Road, a Virginia-based gallery, according to the news provider. As college can be a difficult time for students to pick a major, many individuals, like Wilmmer, opt to take a career test in order to find more direction. The book Career Counseling states that taking these assessments can have many benefits. For example, career tests can show individuals what their professional strengths and weaknesses are as well as what type of work environment would best suit them.
