It may be summer, but many students do not have much reason to celebrate. According to The Associated Press, less than 30 percent of American teenagers hold jobs operating cash registers or busing tables at restaurants.

What is even more troubling is the fact that employment for individuals between the ages of 16 and 19 is now at its lowest level since World War II.

For some teenagers, the lack of jobs for their age group is not a problem, as many of them spend the summer taking classes or participating in programs that can help them prepare for college, the news source reported. However, for those who do not have the luxury of pursuing a college degree, a lack of opportunities makes it hard to get by.

Recently, Worldnow offered some advice to teenagers who may have trouble finding work. For instance, the news outlet suggested these individuals roll up their sleeves and look into jobs loading trucks or cleaning classrooms, as there is always a need for physical workers. Another idea is for young jobseekers to offer their services to people in their neighborhood who need a helping hand.

There is always the chance teenagers are simply chasing the wrong jobs. The results of a career test may be able to point them in the right direction.
