When it comes to choosing a career path, some professions may be intriguing depending on whether the applicant is male or female. For example, a new study is suggesting that more women are choosing to go into veterinary medicine.Researchers from the Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, found that while there is an even split between practitioners, the researchers found that current enrollment in veterinary medicine higher education programs is made up of about 80 percent of women. The study found that men could be intimidated by the amount of women they see in the classroom, which could be what is steering them away from continuing within the profession."There was really only one variable where I found an effect, and that was the proportion of women already enrolled in vet med schools," said researcher Anne E. Lincoln. "So perhaps a young male student says he's going to visit a veterinary medical school, and when he sees a classroom with a lot of women he changes his choice of graduate school. That's what the findings indicate."
