Some individuals have had the preconceived stereotype that women perform lower than men in math-related fields, which is why they choose to stay away from career fields that have a heavy focus in the subject. However, a new study is reporting that it's women's choices, not their capabilities, which are keeping them out of careers with a heavy math intensity. According to the Association of Psychological Science, choice is the major factor as to why women pick the fields of study and career that they do.Researchers from Cornell University found that women are becoming more interested in taking classes such as biology, in order to enter into the medical industry."You don't see nearly as many men with doctorates in physics saying, 'I won't apply for a tenure-track position because my partner wants to practice environmental law in Wyoming and I’m going to follow her there and help take care of the kids,'" said researcher Wendy Williams. "I don't think we should try to persuade a woman who's going to be a physician, veterinarian, or biologist to instead be a computer scientist."
