Now that it is summer, students and professionals who have the season off may be looking for a way to make some cash before fall. However, with the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics saying the national unemployment rate is hovering at 8.2 percent, there is a good chance these individuals will not be the only ones looking for work this summer. As they are likely to face some competition, summer jobseekers may want to do everything in their power to make their resume stand out. The Express-Times recently offered a few tips that people can use that might keep their resume at the top of the pile. For example, the first place recruiters’ eyes will go is the first few lines of a resume. As a result, the news source stressed the importance of having a strong opening statement that lets readers know what type of job candidates are looking for. Something else that might help is a detailed summary in the place of a leaner opening statement. This short paragraph allows jobseekers to touch on their achievements, skill set and career path. Of course, neither of these tips will be of any use if individuals are going after jobs in a field that does not suit them. The results of a career test may be just what they need to make sure they are on the right path to employment.
